Monday 7-25-2022 Yesterday, Sunday, the Misr El Kheir Foundation, in the presence of representatives of the Ministries of Social Solidarity and the Environment, launched a proposed standard system for accrediting green NGOs, according to which the extent to which NGOs apply environmental requirements and sustainability requirements in all their practices will be evaluated, and then accredited as a green NGO, within the framework of the regional campaign Sustainable Climate launched by the Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Solidarity and under the sponsorship of the Presidency Go Green initiative, the Arab Network for NGOs, the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, the Institute of National Planning, and the United Nations Programme. Development, in preparation for the United Nations Climate Conference of the Parties (COP 27), which will be held at the end of the year in Sharm El-Sheikh. During the meeting, the proposal submitted by Misr El Kheir for this system was discussed in the presence of 55 participants from environment, civil society organizations and quality experts, Dr. Salah Hashem, Advisor to the Minister of Social Solidarity for Social Policies, Islam Abdel Majeed, Director of the Associations Department at the Ministry of Environment, Dr. Talaat Abdel Qawi, President of the General Federation of Associations and NGOs, Dr. Samir Tantawi, Responsible for National Reporting on Climate Change, and Mohamed Mamdouh, Head of the NGO Development Program at the Misr El Kheir Foundation. The meeting ended with a set of proposals to develop the proposed standard system for accrediting NGOs as sustainable green organizations. The meeting was moderated by Dr. Hussein Abaza, international advisor for sustainable development and green economy. In his speech, Dr. Talaat Abdel Qawi pointed to the Misr Al-Khair Foundation’s great interest in the issue of climate change, as it prepares special awards for sustainable development issues, and launched a sustainable climate campaign and award in this regard with the participation of a large number of civil society associations, to encourage the associations to be green and environmentally friendly, in addition to preparing for the United Nations Climate Conference COP27. Abdel Qawi said that there is great interest in climate issues in the national dialogue, in which he is participating, and it is an open dialogue, during which climate and environmental issues will be discussed, and the outcomes of today’s table, organized by the Misr El Kheir Foundation in cooperation with the Ministries of Social Solidarity and the Environment, will be used in the national dialogue, which will produce recommendations and draft laws, in preparation for submitting them to the President of the Republic. In his speech, Dr. Salah Ahmed Hashem, Advisor to the Minister of Solidarity for Social Policies, affirmed: “Egypt is always accustomed to the fact that the role of NGOs is not only to provide humanitarian aid, but rather to contribute to all issues of concern to society, and to deal and interact with various state issues, and the Ministry of Solidarity is an essential part, and NGOs are an essential partner in these issues.” Hashem explained that the higher the poverty rates, the more the environment deteriorates, and the issue of poverty and the resulting environmental issues are among the most important axes because we want a sustainable environmental climate. In his speech, Islam Abdel Majeed, Director of the Civil Associations Department at the Ministry of Environment, said: We are partners with the “Misr Al Kheir” Foundation in many activities and it is currently implementing a group of important activities at the regional level, including the Misr Al Kheir Award, and civil society organizations will actively participate with us in the climate conference next November. #Standard_system #Green_NGOs #Towards_sustainable_civil_work
